At 27, Vincent dedicated himself to painting. 1886 his moved to Paris to live with his brother, Theo, who supported him financially so that he could focus on creating art.
In 1888, Vincent moved to Arles, a city in the south of France, where he worked on two series of still-life paintings called Sunflowers. Vincent painted his sunflowers in vivid colors – yellows and oranges that gave that made them canvas come to life! These paintings would become some of the most recognized artwork in the world.
In just 10 years, Vincent created more than 2,100 works. Sadly, in 1890, Van Gogh died from a gunshot injury. He was just 37 years old.
During his life, he had sold only one painting. However, other artists and his brother promoted his work. Today, Vincent van Gogh is considered one of the greatest artists the world has ever seen. His paintings are among the most expensive in the world. One of those vibrant sunflower paintings sold for $39.9 million!
