Singapore

The country of Singapore is situated between the Indian Ocean and the South China Sea. It is located off the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula, less than 100 miles from the equator. Some interesting facts include:

  • Singapore is the second smallest country in Asia and is about 3.5 times the size of Washington D.C.

  • While it is unlikely that lions ever occupied the island, Singapore’s name translates as the Lion City.

  • Singapore consists of just one main island and 63 other tiny islands. The majority of these islands are uninhabited.

  • Singapore is the second most densely populated country in the world, with 6,430 people per square kilometer. (Monaco is the first.)
