Table Mountain
Day 17

What a thrill! This morning I went to the top of Table Mountain. The mountain can be seen from everywhere in Cape Town. Nelson Mandela spoke of how he could see it while held prisoner on Robben Island. He said, “To us, on Robben Island, Table Mountain was a beacon of hope.”

Secretly, I was wishing I could have hiked to the top. There are trails for visitors looking to take a more leisurely (or adventurous) trek to the top, but that takes a few hours. However, our busy schedule and heavy camera equipment meant our journey to the top would be made by cable car. The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway whisked us to the top of the Mountain in less than five minutes and provided the ultimate view of Cape Town.

The best part of being at the top is looking down on the city on one side and over the Atlantic ocean on the other. The only downside to our morning adventure was the temperature, 40 degrees (fahrenheit), which we were not prepared for at all. There is, however, a small café at the top. So, after a quick cup of tea, I was off enjoy the view for as long as possible before we had to make the journey back down.

As we left the clouds rolled in and the thick fog made the city below seem to disappear.

Definitely an excellent way to spend my morning in Cape Town! With my head in the clouds,
