Roughing It? - Mkuze Falls
Day 25 & 26
This morning we hopped on a plane bound for Durban. From the plane, I noticed that KwaZulu Natal looked much greener than Cape Town and Johannesburg. To get to the game reserve we had a 4-hour drive which took as past sugarcane filled meadows. As it turned out, the long drive was a wonderful way to see some more of the countryside. We arrived after the sun had gone down and I was not able to see the game reserve. When we pulled up to the lodge we were greeted by our hosts and led to our tented lodges. The tents are incredible! Mosquito netting surrounds the heated beds. Inside each tent, there is a large bathroom, claw-foot bathtub, two sinks, and a shower. The entire tent, is made of canvas, has lots of zippers and velcro-sealed windows that look out into the bush. Each tent has everything you could possibly need, including a check list for all the animals you are likely to see. Our tented lodge adventure lasts for two nights before heading to the main lodge. Day 27 - 29 The main lodge is a home away from home! I enjoyed the rustic adventure of staying the in tented lodge, but our new accommodations are fantastic! Each room has a private balcony with incredible views of the South African landscape. The room is bigger than my Manhattan apartment and the coolest feature of the main lodge is the outdoor showers and private dipping pools. On our final (scrumptious) dinner we were treated to traditional Zulu singing and dancing by the boma - or bonfire. It will be difficult to leave such comfort and peaceful surroundings in the morning. Hardly roughing it in Mkuze Falls,
