Shakespeare’s England |

Welcome To England!
Greetings! I’m Christopher Schram, your guide for this Shakespearean adventure.
I could barely sleep during the overnight flight to London. I was far too excited. However, I must have dozed off at some point since I remember waking up to a voice over the intercom saying: “Welcome to London.” When arriving in a foreign country the first things visitors must do is go to immigration and passport control. As I approached the immigration officer with my passport in hand I felt like I was on a mission. The whole process is a bit like a secret agent film. I was asked a few detailed questions: How long will you be staying? What is the purpose of your visit? Who are you travelling with? I answered each question, my passport was stamped, and I was on my way to the city. We took a taxi to our hotel, which was a great way to get a first look at the city of London. With 4 people and lots of luggage, it was difficult for me to see out of the windows, but I did spot Big Ben and Parliament! We are staying at the Mad Hatter Hotel, which is in a part of London called Southwark. Our hotel is just a few steps from the River Thames and some of the major sites along the river like St. Paul’s Cathedral and Shakespeare’s Globe. Tomorrow morning we leave for Stratford-upon-Avon. I am looking forward to learning about Shakespeare’s life, prior to him becoming an actor and playwright. I am off to bed now. The jetlag has really hit me hard and I want to be ready for the early morning drive to Stratford. Enhance your English History: Learn about explorer Sir Francis Drake. A weary (but excited) explorer,
