The Dream/Epilogue

“I’ll note you in my book of memory.” (from Shakespeare’s Henry VI Part 1)

One of my favorite Shakespeare plays is A Midsummer Night’s Dream. In this magical comedy, a mischievous sprite named Puck (sometimes called Robin Goodfellow) plays tricks on the characters in the play. I like to think of Puck being like Peter Pan or Tinker Bell, only more of a troublemaker. Like most of Shakespeare’s comedies, by the end of the play the characters have fallen in love.

The play is filled with fun language, so I found a speech to share with you. In the video, I am speaking the last lines of the play called the epilogue. In the epilogue, Puck apologizes to anyone in the audience who may have been offended by the play. We filmed this in an empty room so that you can imagine the magical world of the play as I recite the lines. The picture on the left is just one way the play might look; though, as you watch the video can imagine your own sets, costumes, and designs.

My own epilogue: What a journey it has been! Today, I woke up and it struck me that our trip had come to an end. In a few hours we leave England and I return to New York City.

I headed to Borough Market for one last food frenzy. and had just a few hours left for walking along the Thames. I passed Shakespeare’s Globe, the Tate Modern, and all of the other places I have gotten to know quite well.

I think what I learned most on this trip is that you should always do something you love. Whether that’s to be a Member of Parliament, a bell-maker, an actor, or a cheese seller, everyone has the potential to love their job. The people wet me made our trip wonderful and I am lucky to have seen so many extraordinary places.

I look forward to sharing our next expedition with you,
