The UK stands for the United Kingdom. Located in Western Europe, the UK is made up of four countries: England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. The official name is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Some important facts about the UK include:

  • The capital of the UK is London.
  • The National Anthem is God Save the Queen.
  • The UK is smaller than the U.S. state of Oregon.
  • In 2006, more than 60 million people lived in the UK.
  • The UK is a constitutional monarchy. This means there is a monarch and an elected head of Parliament, the Prime Minister.
  • The voting age in the UK is 18.
