|
Stratford-upon-Avon is a small town that sits on the River Avon in the central part of England. It is about 100 miles northwest of London. People who live in the town simply call it "Stratford". The town is famous because it is the birthplace of William Shakespeare and the site of many popular tourist attractions related to him; including the Holy Trinity Church and the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. Around 1,500 people lived in Stratford-upon Avon in Shakespeare’s time, but nowadays the town has a population of around 23,000 and hosts roughly three million tourists a year!
