Millennium Bridge

When it opened on June 10, 2000, London's Millennium Bridge was the first pedestrians-only bridge in a century to cross the Thames. When it first opened, it was nicknamed the "Wobbly Bridge" because it would sway as people walked across it. The problem was fixed by February 2002 once specially designed shock absorbers were added to keep the bridge from moving.

This suspension bridge has unobstructed views of London. 325 meters of steel link the Tate Modern on the south side of the Thames River with St. Paul's Cathedral on the north side.

The bridge was one of a series of projects sponsored by the Millennium Commission. The Millennium Commission created projects across the United Kingdom in celebration of the new millennium:  the Millennium Bridge, the Millennium Wheel (the London Eye), and the Millennium Dome.
