An artistic director has a combined job of artistic and administrative responsibilities. The artistic director of a theatre chooses the company's season of plays and directors for the plays.

He or she is also responsible for working closely with directors and coordinating with everyone involved in the production to make sure all efforts are working towards the success of the production. Meeting with a Board of Directors and dealing with the public and fundraising are often also parts of the Artistic Director's job.
