The Umayyads were the first Islamic dynasty. They ruled from from 661 CE to 750 CE.

They based their capital in Damascus, Syria. Though, their empire stretched from Europe to India.

During their reign, they built the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem. This mosque is the oldest Islamic structure still standing in the world today. They also built castles, forts, towers, baths, palaces, and caravan inns in Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria.
