Israel is a country in southwest Asia located near the Mediterranean Sea. It is bordered by Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, and Egypt.

Some quick facts about Israel include:

• Jerusalem, Israel’s capital, is located north of the Dead Sea.
• In 2008, the population of Israel was approximately 7 million.
• The majority of the population is Jewish. However, modern day Israel contains many religious groups including Muslims and Christians.
• Economically, Israel is one of the most advanced countries in the region, exporting pharmaceuticals, computer software, chemicals, military technology, and diamonds.
• Military service is mandatory for Israeli Jews when they reach the age of 18.
• Israeli money is called the Shekel.
