Egypt, or the Arab Republic of Egypt, is a country in northern Africa. It is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea, Libya, Sudan, Israel, Jordan, the Palestinian Territories and the Red Sea.
Some quick facts about Egypt include:
- Arabic is the official language of Egypt. English and French are also spoken.
- Egypt’s history dates back more than 5,000 years. Pharaohs were the first to create a civilization on the banks of the Nile River.
- The majority of the population of Egypt inhabits the areas along the Nile River Valley and Delta. The rest of the land is mostly arid desert.
- The capital of Egypt is Cairo.
- Egypt is a wildly popular tourist destination with the Pyramids of Giza at the top of visitors’ must-see list.
