Yebo, South Africa!
To The Extreme

South Africa is known for adventurous sports like surfing, shark cage diving, and bungee jumping. I decided to try bungee jumping!

Bungee Jumping. From 33 stories high, I waited on the platform of Orlando Towers. I was ready to conquer the jump. It’s common for people to climb to the top, look down, and decide not to jump.

My jump crew counted down: 5-4-3-2-1 and I leapt!

After bouncing around, the jump crew lowered me down to the ground. It was a soft and easy landing. And my first word to my team was “Awesome!”

Surfing. After my bungee adventure, I decided to let Christopher enjoy surfing solo. Gary, a professional surfer, gave him a quick lesson in balance and safety rules.

When it comes to surfing, Gary told me that shark attacks are rare. Like any adventure sport, the trick is to keep your eyes open and be aware. Shark sightings near Cape Town are common, so I’m glad I sat this one out.

Cricket. It may not be an extreme sport, but cricket is popular in more than 120 countries. It surprised me to learn cricket was a favorite in U.S. during the 1800s. After the Civil War, baseball became America’s favorite pastime.

I got a lesson from two professional players. They taught me how to bat and bowl. The batter’s swing is more like a golf swing than a baseball swing. After a few tries, I was able to hit the ball!

Bungee away!
