An immigration officer’s job is to check visitors’ passports and to verify identity.

Immigration officers work in airports, train stations, boat docks, and other places where people can enter the country.

When arriving in a new country, an immigration officer may ask you a few questions like:

• How long are you staying?
• Why are you visiting?
• Whom are you visiting?

These questions are asked to be sure that you plan to go home to your own country.
