South Africa’s Government with Dave A. Steward
Today, we met with Dave Steward. He is a former United Nations Ambassador and was also an advisor to former President F.W. de Klerk. Mr. Steward has been involved in many exciting events and major changes in South Africa’s history. He was working with President de Klerk when apartheid ended. Ilana asked Mr. Steward many questions about South Africa’s government and constitution. For me, it was very interesting to learn that while the US Constitution was adopted in 1787, South Africa did not approve their Constitution until 1996. Mr. Steward talked about the spirit of compromise and forgiveness at the end of apartheid. This spirit has allowed for the creation of a modern South Africa, where all people now have equal rights. I left thinking about the many changes that occured during Mr. Steward’s lifetime and how he helped to bring about those changes. Because of this, I am inspired to help change the world for the better. How would you help make your world and your own community a better place?
