Minding the Gap

Many Londoners use public transportation to move around the city every day.

London’s subway system is called the Underground or the Tube. These trains take passengers through a tunnel system that stretches all over London.

When getting off and on the train there is a voice over a speaker telling you to “Mind the Gap.” This means that you should watch your step. Sometimes there is space between the train and the platform. Getting your foot caught would be dangerous.

In London, the Tube makes it easy to get from place to place. To ride the Tube you must buy a ticket from a ticket machine or at the ticket counter. When riding the Tube it is important to hold on to your ticket, because you will need it to exit the station when you arrive at your stop.

In addition to our tickets, we also needed a permit. This allowed us to film our journey on the subway.

The Tube is very easy to use. It saves money on taxicabs and on gasoline for cars. Have you ever been on a train before?

All this travelling has made me hungry! Time for us to grab a quick bite!
