Day 24

During our stay in London, we visited different types of theatre. London is famous for its theatres. Some of the most important theatres from Shakespeare's time were the Globe Theatre and the Rose Theatre.

The Globe is where most of Shakespeare's plays were first put on. Our first stop was to Shakespeare's Globe, rebuilt to look like the original. We saw 4 plays at Shakespeare's Globe, and I even got to be a groundling at 2 of the shows. At first, I was worried that my feet and legs would get very tired, but the plays were so good that I forgot that I was standing.

We also visited the Old Vic. We saw Shakespeare's play Richard II. One of the most exciting things about Shakespeare's plays is that they can make sense no matter what time the play is set in. This version of the play was very modern. It used clothing from today and large television screens to help tell the story.

After the play, we got a special tour of the Old Vic from Trina. The Old Vic has been through many changes over the years. It is famous for its Shakespeare productions, and it is where many famous actors in England got their start.

We also visited the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-upon-Avon and the National Theatre in London. At these 2 places, we met people who work in the theatre. At the Royal Shakespeare's Company, we met with Tom Piper and learned all about his job as a designer.

I liked learning about all the different jobs in the theatre and how people work as a team to put on a play.
