Make an Impression
Day 13

The printing press is one of the most important inventions in history. Before the printing press every book had to be handwritten and copied by hand. This took a very long time and made books very rare.

When the printing press arrived in England it helped to make more books available so more people began to learn to read.

We met with Nigel at the St. Bride Library to learn about the history of printing. He showed us what some of the first books in England would have looked like.

Nigel let us see an old fashioned printing press and showed us how it worked. I thought the process was a bit slow. Nigel and Jackie will show you exactly how it works in the video.

In the room with the printing press, there were many drawers. Each drawer was marked with a font name. Some of the fonts were fancy and some were plain.

There are many inventions that have changed the world. I am very thankful for this invention.

What would you invent to change the world?
