Make An Impression

The printing press is one of the most important inventions in history. Before the printing press, every book had to be handwritten. This took a long time and made books very rare.

When the printing press arrived in England, it helped to make more books available. This meant more people began to learn to read.

At the St. Bride Library in London, we saw an old fashioned printing press. Our guide, Nigel, demonstrated how it worked. I thought the process was a bit slow as you can see in the video.

In the room with the printing press, there were cabinets with many small drawers. Each drawer was marked with a font type name. Some of the fonts were fancy and some were plain.

There are many inventions that have changed the world. The printing press is definitely one of them. I am very thankful for it.
