Parliament
Day 18
It was a very exciting day. Jenny and I interviewed MP Simon Hughes. MP means Member of Parliament. They represent the people living in Britain and work with the Prime Minister. We met Simon in his office in Portcullis House, across from Big Ben. Before we got started, Simon offered us breakfast. I thought it was very nice that he took the time to get to know us. Simon’s office was smaller than I thought it would be. There were huge stacks of paper on the desk. Simon told us he gets many letters from people in his borough asking for help. He works very hard to help as many people as he can. Then, we learned about Britain’s government. Some things are the same as the U.S. but there are also many differences. Simon explains some of them in video.
Simon talked about being a good leader. He said it is important to listen and be aware of what is going on around us. He also encouraged us to be strong leaders. Simon would like to see young people, women, and minorities get involved in their government. I left thinking about what I could do to be a good leader. What can you do to make your community a better place?
