The Players
Day 8
Today was our first day off! Traveling makes you tired, so I took it easy. This afternoon, I met my Aunt and some of my family just outside of London. It was nice to see my family. Since they live in London I do not get to see them very often. Tonight the entire team met and planned out the rest of our trip. Each of us had done some homework on the people and places we would be learning more about. I put together a list of important people from Shakespeare's time to help you. These people were the celebrities of their time: Queen Elizabeth I - Elizabeth was born on September 7, 1533. She was the daughter of King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn. She was crowned Queen of England in 1559. She ruled England for 45 years. Elizabeth's reign was known as the Elizabethan Era. Walter Raleigh was a famous British writer and explorer. He was one of Queen Elizabeth's favorites. He led expeditions to the New World and tried to colonize Virginia. Raleigh was not well liked by King James I. King James had him locked up in the Tower of London and later executed. Guy Fawkes was one of the men who planned to blow-up Parliament and kill King James I. This plan is known as the Gunpowder Plot. He was found with barrels of gunpowder in a cellar of Parliament. Guy was taken to the Tower of London to be questioned. In 1606, Guy was executed. A well informed traveler,
