Paper Trail
Day 7
The National Archives seemed like a long way outside of London. We took the Tube to a stop called Kew Gardens. Then we followed signs that pointed us in the right direction. The National Archives is where important documents are put for safe keeping. We met an expert in old documents. His name was David Thomas. Jackie asked David lots of questions and Jenny and I filmed everything. We looked at papers from Shakespeare’s time. Jackie was asked to put on little white gloves to protect the documents. The gloves helped protect the documents from any dirt or oil on her hands. David showed us some of the most famous documents kept in the archives. We saw Shakespeare's will. His will is famous because he signed his name on it. We also got to see where these papers are kept. A man named Stuart took us to a room called the repository. The room has to be kept at the perfect temperature and moisture to preserve the documents. Visiting the National Archives made me think about how computers have changed the way we record important information. How do you think information will be stored a few hundred years from today? Best,
