Wilton House is the home of the 18th Earl of Pembroke, William Herbert. Wilton House has been owned by the Herbert family since the mid-1500s when it was given to them by King Henry VIII.

During Shakespeare’s time many famous writers gathered at Wilton House. This group of writers became known as the Wilton Circle, which was led by the Countess of Pembroke, Mary Sidney.

Today, Wilton House is a wonderful place to visit. The large state rooms and gardens have been seen in movies like the recent Pride and Prejudice.
