Printing Press |
|
Johannes Gutenberg invented the printing press in 1454. Before the invention of the printing press, there were not many books because they all had to be written by hand. The printing press used carved wooden letters or images that would be covered in ink and then pressed against paper to print the pages. A man named William Caxton set up the first printing press in England in 1476. By the time Shakespeare’s plays were written the printing press had been in England for more than 100 years. Thanks to the printing press, people were able to buy and read Shakespeare’s plays and the books and poems of other Elizabethan Age writers. Copyright © ProjectExplorer 2003-2009 |
