Millennium Bridge

The Millennium Bridge opened on June 10, 2000. It was the first pedestrians-only bridge across the Thames River in a century.

When it first opened, it was nicknamed the ‘Wobbly Bridge’, because it would sway as people walked across it. The problem was fixed by February 2002, by adding shock absorbers to keep the bridge from moving.

The bridge was one of the projects built to celebrate the year 2000. The Millennium Wheel (now called the London Eye) and the Millennium Dome were the other projects built in the year 2000.

The photos show the Millennium Bridge with St. Paul’s Cathedral in the background.
