Latin, an early language, was first used in Italy in the 8th century, B.C.E.

In England, Latin was once the only language that books were written in.

Today, Latin is almost extinct. However, of the words in the English language come from Latin or Greek (another early language). Some Latin words are still used in medicine, science, and in legal documents.
