King James I

James was born in 1556 in Scotland. When Queen Elizabeth I died in 1603, he became King James I of England.

King James was a Protestant. In 1605, the Gunpowder Plot was created by a group that was unhappy with the treatment of Catholics under King James I’s rule. The plan was to blow up Parliament and kill the King. Luckily, it failed.

King James I is probably best known for allowing a new translation of the Bible. This version became known as he The King James Version of the Bible. It was completed in 1611. This version of the Bible is still used today.

He died in 1625 at the age of 58.
