The Gunpowder Plot

Guy Fawkes and 11 other men created the Gunpowder plot -- a plan to kill King James I and blow-up Parliament.

The men behind the plot were not happy with the way the King treated Catholics. They men rented a cellar in the building where Parliament met and snuck in 36 barrels of gunpowder to use as explosives.

On November 5, 1605, the explosives were to be set off when the King came to Parliament. Before anyone was hurt, Guy Fawkes was found in the cellar with the barrels of gunpowder. Luckily, a member of Parliament had been warned about the plan.

Everyone who was a part of the plan was found guilty and put to death.
