Covent Garden |
|
Don’t let the name fool you -- Covent Garden is not a garden at all! This popular part of London was designed to look like an Italian-style public square, called a piazza. It was designed by Inigo Jones and was London’s first public square. In 1649, it became an open area market where fruits and vegetables were sold. Over the years, the market grew and in 1830, a central building was added. Today, there are many shops and restaurants in Covent Garden. It is a good place to see many different kinds of street performers and musicians.
