A Farmer’s Daughter
Day 5
Today, we woke up at 5:30am to visit Anne Hathaway’s Cottage. The cottage was on a narrow country road in a town called Shottery. The house reminded me of an illustration in a storybook. The morning was cold and windy, but the sun was shining. It was so cold I could see my breath as I waited to get inside.
The house was larger than I thought it would be. It was 2 stories high and it had a thatched roof. We met an expert on the cottage named Charles. Why is this cottage important to Shakespeare's life? Well, Anne Hathaway became William Shakespeare’s wife. This is the house she grew up in. Charles let me sit me on a bench called the courting bench. The bench has been in the cottage since Shakespeare’s time. Maybe this is where William sat and shared his poetry with Anne before they were married. I liked the idea of that! Do you know how your parents met each other? Your happy tour guide,
