Paterson Joseph is a British actor. He has appeared in many Shakespearean plays in the United Kingdom. He has even appeared on Broadway!

We met with Paterson at the National Theatre on London’s South Bank. There are several theatres within the National Theatre. It’s like a small movie theatre complex.

Paterson spoke with us about being an actor. He told us why he enjoys performing Shakespeare. I really liked hearing about the amount of work it takes to become an actor. Seeing Paterson perform, you would never think acting is such hard work. He makes it look so easy.

The Scottish Play with Michael Stulbarg. Macbeth is one of Shakespeare’s most popular plays. It is about people who want power and will stop at nothing to get it.

Many people who work in theatre think that the play is unlucky. For this reason, most actors will call it ‘The Scottish Play,’ instead of Macbeth. Those that are superstitious think that saying the name of the play inside a theatre will bring bad luck for the actors and the crew.
