¡Bienvenidos a México!
Welcome to México! Jenny here, your guide during our Mexican adventure.
For me, the flight from New York City to Mexico City was easy. It took less than six hours. There’s only a 1-hour time change, so my fellow travellers and I shouldn’t have trouble adjusting. After getting off the plane, I show my passport to an immigration officer and get a cool stamp that shows I’m welcome in México! My first impression of Mexico City: it’s massive! This city is home to more than 21 million people, which makes it a super-city or megalopolis. The country of México has 31 states. During my trip I’ll be exploring three regions: Mexico City, Oaxaca, and Mérida. The country is about one-fifth of the size of the United States and the landscape changes from region to region. For example, Mexico City is surrounded by steep mountains and volcanoes. It sits more than 7,000 feet above sea level and has a mild climate. The state of Chiapas is very different with its rainforest and its humid, tropical climate. Before beginning any trip, I do my research. First, I make sure my passport is up to date. Then, I read several travel books and talk to people who have visited the country. When I read about México, what fascinated me most was its long history which stretches as far back as 4,000 years. For example, ruins from the 1300s can be found in the heart of busy downtown Mexico City. In many of the villages, traditions that have been around for hundreds of years are still being practiced. I’m excited to see the mix of past and present in this very large country. A Director’s note: Can’t find me in the videos? That is because I’m behind the camera capturing everything on film for you. Hasta mañana,Jenny B.
