Shawarma

Shawarma is a meat dish and is usually beef, lamb, or chicken. It is cooked as it slowly turns in front of a fire and is shaved off in thin slices. The slices are usually put in a flat bread with vegetables such as lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumbers, and topped with dressing. The meat can also be served separately.

Shawarma is a typical fast food in the Middle East and in areas with a large Middle Eastern population. Shawarma was likely invented in Turkey, and the name comes from a Turkish word for ‘turning.’ It is similar to a gyro (Greek) or Döner kebab (also Turkish).
