A forum was the main area in an ancient city or town. It is similar to a town square.

In ancient Rome, the forum was a busy and exciting place to be. It was a place for political and social activities. People would meet in the forum to discuss business, shop in the marketplace, and watch criminal trials. Government buildings were also located in the forum.
