Egypt is a country in northern Africa. It shares borders with the Mediterranean Sea, Libya, Sudan, Israel, Jordan, the Palestinian Territories, and the Red Sea.
Some quick facts about Egypt include:
- The official language of Egypt is Arabic. English and French are also spoken.
- Egypt’s history dates back more than 5,000 years. Pharaohs were the first to create a civilization on the banks of the Nile River.
- The majority of the population of Egypt lives in areas along the Nile River Valley and Delta. The rest of the land is mostly arid desert.
- The capital of Egypt is Cairo.
- Egypt is a very popular tourist destination. The Pyramids of Giza are at the top most visitors’ must-see lists.
