Cultural Crossroads: Jordan
Amman

Welcome to Jordan! I’m your guide, Jenny Buccos. I’m also the director of the videos that you will see along your journey.

My fellow team members and I arrived in Amman 12 hours after leaving New York. We lost 7 hours due to the time change.

Jordan is a small country and it’s possible to drive to most places within a few hours. So, Amman will be our home-base most of the time.

Although we felt tired, we were ready to begin our adventure by exploring the city. With our handy Jordan guidebooks, we headed downtown. Downtown Amman is a busy place full of shops, speedy taxis, and pedestrians walking around. Our first stop was an outdoor fruit and vegetable market. I bought some candy, nuts, and fruit to keep in the hotel room.

After shopping for some souvenirs, we decided to visit some of the ancient sites of downtown Amman. We headed to the Roman theatre which was built nearly 2,000 years ago during the Roman Era. I climbed to the top of the stairs and imagined seeing a play here during Roman Times. After the theatre, we headed uphill to the Citadel which has an amazing view of the city.

While touring the city, we all worked up an appetite. So, we found a little falafel and hummus restaurant that is very popular with the local community. I’m excited to be exploring a new place and trying new food.

Now for a good night’s sleep so I can adjust to the time change.

More tomorrow,

Next: Take a tour of the Royal Palaces.
