South Africa’s Constitution |
|
“We, the people of South Africa, recognize the injustices of our past; honor those who suffered for justice and freedom in our land...and believe that South Africa belongs to all who live in it, united in our diversity.” Thus, begins the preamble to the Constitution of South Africa, the result of years of struggle and sometimes bloody confrontation. The Constitution is the main document that determines how the South African government makes laws, runs elections, and secures the rights of its citizens. Among the document’s founding principles are: the protection of human rights and human dignity, the achievement of equality, and a guarantee for universal adult suffrage. © ProjectExplorer.org, 2007-present |
