Act Up with Paterson Joseph
Day 27
Today, we stopped by the Royal National Theatre on the South Bank to meet actor, Paterson Joseph. Speaking with Paterson was a real treat for us; we had just seen him in a play at this very theatre. Paterson was starring in a play called The Royal Hunt of the Sun and I must say it was some of the best theatre I have ever seen. The play was about the conquest of Peru and he literally became a completely different person in his role. Paterson crafted his movement and voice perfectly for this character. Acting is so much more than remembering lines and a great actor can make you forget you are watching a play. The entire cast of this play did that! After watching his work on stage, we were all interested in seeing what he was like in person and learning about his career. Stage acting is a craft and Paterson has spent a lot of time training to become an actor. He has appeared in a number of Shakespearean dramas and even tried directing Romeo and Juliet in the community he grew up in. Paterson is definitely the kind of actor I want to be like some day and I hope that you will find a few words of inspiration from him, whether or not acting is in your future. "The play's the thing",
