Embassy |
|
Sometimes called a diplomatic mission, an embassy can be either an intergovernmental organization (such as the United Nations) or a group from one country that is present in another country (such as the U.S. Embassy in Jordan). Embassies are set up to protect the interests of the country they represent. There is usually only one embassy for a country in another country, and it is usually based in the capital city of that country (for example there is only one U.S. Embassy in the U.K. and it is based in London). An Embassy is headed by an ambassador, who serves as the official representative of their country. Many countries also have consulates in major cities abroad. These consulates take care of minor diplomatic tasks, such as issuing visas, but don’t have any intergovernmental diplomatic powers. Copyright © ProjectExplorer 2009 |
