| Table Mountain Middle Elementary Objective: This lessons is designed to make students aware of historical buildings and natural landmarks around the world. Lesson: Begin by brainstorming famous buildings/structures and natural landmarks around the world. For each building or landmark named be sure students know where it is located. (If a world map and images are available they will further enhance this lesson.) Examples to begin your classroom dialogue can include: US Natural Landmarks: The Grand Canyon, Old Faithful, Niagara Falls, the Everglades. International Natural Landmarks: Table Mountain, Victoria Falls, Mount Everest, and the Great Barrier Reef. US Historical Structures: The White House, The Empire State Building, The Golden Gate Bridge, and Mount Rushmore, and The Alamo. International Historical Structures: The Eiffel Tower, The London Eye, The Taj Mahal, The Great Wall of China, and the Pyramids. In-Class Activity: Have students create their own building or structure to become a symbol of their community or country. Students may imagine and create their structure in any visual artistic medium (e.g. a painting, drawing, clay model, etc.) Complete the project by having students name their design. Student Assessment: By the end of this lesson students should be able to identify famous structures and natural landmarks around the world.
