Objective: This lesson is designed to help students understand biodiversity and learn identify various living things in their communities. Activity: After watching the video from Kirstenbosch Garden, lead students in an outdoor exploration of a designated area. Working independently, or in small groups, have learners keep a list of all the different plant and animal types they encounter. Once completing the outdoor exploration, return to class and have students share their lists to create a master list. Then, as a class discuss what types of living things may also be found in South Africa. Educator Note: Students should be provided with approximatey 30 minutes to explore the space.
