Objective: These lessons are designed to test students memory and understanding of the concepts, people, places, and events covered in the South Africa program.

Lesson 1: Begin by listing the letters of the alphabet on a chalkboard or overhead projector.

Topic For Discussion: Guide learners in brainstorming people, places, and concepts from the South Africa program to fit each of the letters of the alphabet. (An attached list of sample words can is available to aid you.) As a class, come up with as many words to fit each letter of the alphabet as possible.

Lesson 2: Beginning by assigning each student a letter of the alphabet.

In-Class Activity:  Students should create an illustration of a person, place, or concept that is associated with that letter and relevant to the South Africa program. (An attached list of sample words can is available to aid you.)

Approximately 20-30 minutes will be needed for students to complete this activity. This activity may be adapted based on the availability of additional arts supplies.

Student Assessment:   Students will demonstrate an understanding of key South African people, places, events, and concepts
